The idea behind it.

YourBank is a comprehensive online banking solution built with Flask. It models the core of a retail bank: multiple account types, transfers, loans, credit cards, investments, and security controls — all behind a single authenticated experience.

Beyond simple balances and transfers, the system handles automated EMI processing, bulk payments, GST/tax payments, email notifications, and downloadable statements (CSV/Excel). Dashboard analytics surface transaction history and account health.

Security is treated as a first-class feature: password hashing, two-factor authentication (PyOTP), CSRF protection, and mail-driven notifications for important account activity.

What it does

  • Savings and current account management
  • Debit card management and fund transfers
  • Home, personal, and business loans with automated EMI
  • Credit cards (Standard / Gold / Platinum tiers)
  • Investments: fixed deposits, recurring deposits, mutual funds
  • Bulk payments and GST/tax payment flows
  • Two-factor authentication (2FA) and secure password hashing
  • Email notifications and downloadable statements (CSV/Excel)
  • Dashboard analytics and full transaction history

Where it fits

  • Teaching and demonstrating end-to-end banking product workflows
  • Prototyping FinTech product ideas (loans, cards, investments) before mobile apps
  • Campus labs simulating multi-module enterprise banking systems
  • Portfolio proof of complex domain modeling, auth, and scheduled jobs

The challenges

  • Modeling many financial entities without inconsistent ledger-like states
  • Scheduling reliable EMI and notification jobs alongside request handlers
  • Balancing feature breadth with a clear, navigable UI

What I took away

  • Domain models (accounts, loans, investments) drive architecture more than frameworks
  • Security layers (2FA, CSRF) should be designed early, not bolted on
  • Background jobs make “real banking” behavior feel production-like
