The idea behind it.

A focused console application written in C++ that computes employee payslips from first principles: personal details, days worked, hourly rate, overtime rate, and overtime hours.

The program generates a formatted payslip with gross pay and supports looping through multiple employees in a single session — a clean exercise in structured I/O, calculation logic, and procedural design without a GUI framework.

It is intentionally lightweight: ideal for understanding payroll math and C++ fundamentals before moving those rules into larger HR or accounting systems.

What it does

  • Employee detail capture (name, ID, days, rates, overtime)
  • Gross pay calculation from hours and overtime
  • Formatted payslip output
  • Multi-employee session loop until user exits
  • MIT licensed, easy to compile and extend

Where it fits

  • Learning how payroll math maps to code before building web HR tools
  • Teaching labs on structured programming and console UX
  • Quick offline payslip calculation for small teams or demos
  • Foundation logic that can later feed Flask/SQL payroll modules

The challenges

  • Keeping input validation robust in a pure console flow
  • Presenting a readable payslip without a UI toolkit

What I took away

  • Payroll is pure domain logic — perfect for language fundamentals
  • Clear prompts and loops make CLI tools feel intentional
